Do you feel like David Blaine in a glass Box in the current job market? You're not alone...

You're applying for jobs, you're a perfect candidate for the role, it feels like you're getting noticed, in previous years they would have bitten your hand off.... and then.... crickets...

or worse "it's not you, your great... it's just us"

or even worse still "despite what we promised...we've hired internally"

In what feels like the most frustrating job market since... well the last one, what does it take to actually get noticed.. AND actually hired?

Well, it seems that these days, employers are extra picky indeed. It goes without saying that all job hunters now need to have the patience of a saint, combined with grit and resilience and a never ending supply of positivity!

So what can you do to improve your chances of getting hired?

Control what you can control, be professional, on time and courteous. Thoroughly research the role, the company and the industry. Clearly explain how your experience aligns with the role, what you bring to the company and what "value" you can add. You need to bring your CV to life and really sell yourself on what you can bring and why you'd be a great fit, this is your chance to shine and you really need to go for it! Ask great questions and think deeply about the role and the organization as preparation. Have plenty of pre prepared examples of experience ready for any questions like "provide an example or time when you did x and what was the outcome". In this type of market you need to ensure you'd be a great fit for the role to get noticed interviewed. Make sure you fully utilize your network as much as possible and you can follow up on all job leads but don't let that stop you from applying for other jobs until you have an offer you can take, as some processes seem to be taking a very long time to complete and sometimes go around in circles.
